Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Notes & Comments

Suffice to say I won't be hurrying to sign up for a half anytime soon. And I won't be using those "predict a race from race" things either!

The facts: 1:27.27; avg hr 162. So what's that all about? Nothing in my legs from about mile 5. Pace was good up until then, not too quick, not too slow. I was through the first 5 miles in avg 6.20s, which included a couple of big hills up (max hr 174) and a big hill down. After that my legs just fell apart. Tried to up the effort, but nothing really happened. Felt like I was cruising home at well below tempo level for the next 7 miles. It was the strangest feeling at the end, mechanically I felt rubbish, aerobically I felt great.

As you can imagine I've thought about it a lot over the last 18hrs and the two causes that spring to mind are:
(i) lower total mileage over the last 4 weeks, so I'm just not as fit as I was for the Polaroids;
(ii) lack of 12+ mile long runs; probably managed 4 in the last 15 weeks and that's just not enough for a half.

It was hot and there was a pretty significant headwind for the last couple of miles, but those are less important and didn't impact mile 5 - 10.

Anyway, one for experience. Training account is now overdrawn and I need to return to proper training and get back in credit.
