Notes & Comments

Bungay 20k race - Garmin stats. Today's aim was to judge current level of fitness without going eyeballs-out, to experiment a bit with pacing and, hopefully, to nail a negative split. Sub-1-40 was my over-the-moon target. Sub-1-41 was my I'll-be-pleased-with-that-if-I-haven't-run-my-guts-out target, so I'm pleased! Actually, I'm very pleased, because about a month ago I did a 5m "tempo" session slower than this and could barely stand up afterwards. Okay, I'd just had the flu, but I should be pleased with how far (literally and figuratively!) I've come in the last month. Pace judgement was actually pretty good - based on PE, not watch, and was able to speak to all the marshals on the way round plus a fellow-runner on the final uphill, so hopefully the tank's not completely empty now. Also nailed my negative split - yay! Sharp headwind in places made some sections a struggle and the finish was challenging with two draining hills in the last 2k. Not sure about last 2k splits - this part was uphill! Did manage a sprint uphill over the last 50m or so, though.
