How do dogs do it?

So I'm jogging downhill on my second park circuit when suddenly a dog is unleashed upon me - just a cute little Pekinese, who only wants to have fun and join me in my run. And I'd have been fine with that, if he hadn't made me feel like a tortoise. How can a tiny little thing like that, with 3 inch legs, run faster than me?

In other news, I started a new training plan today. The aim is to get my 10K time down to 45 mins by May next year. From my current state of fitness that looks like a tall order, but I enjoy challenging myself ... and I figure that the dog-food diet plan ought to help.
