Notes & Comments

British Masters Indoor Championships 800m. I was in heat 1 of 2 (the slowest heat). I was aiming to go through 200m in 31/32 and 400m in 64/65 and was only slightly off that pace at 32/66 but wasn't really happy with the time - I kept just behind another runner the whole way and tried to go around him at the bell, but he reacted and I couldn't get around. It was strange because he was tall and had a huge stride length. I found I couldn't seem to get the oxygen in quick enough and the lactic acid built up very quickly, I was really struggling by the time I reached 400m, so just had to hold on. I had been feeling very heavy/low on energy all day whilst we 'explored' the center of Sheffield and part of me didn't even want to do it! I had a big coughing fit for around 2 hours after, probably mainly due to the canker sores I still have at the back of my throat. My right calf was also slightly knotted from this morning's jog and walking (I think triggered by the long 6-hour drive I did the day before). I finished 3rd in my heat and 8th out of 9 runners overall - which I guess technically means I finished 8th in Britain!
