Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Notes & Comments

New Forest Stinger

Jeremy took Jacqui, Ian and me down to Ocknell Campsite near Minstead for the New Forest Stinger, which is around 10 lumpy miles through lovely countryside.

Totton Running Club, the organisers, have managed to find a mixture of long climbs and short, sharp ones in the woods for us to tackle. One of my goals was to run them all, including a particularly sweet little pull up near the top of a long drag. I managed (at barely quicker than walking pace, but it's the thought that counts). At times it appeared that none of the run was very close to flat.

There was a steady drizzle throughout, which managed to keep us cool without getting us cold, so that was nice (in an odd sort of way). The rain seemed to have stopped by the time I finished, so that was nice, too: not getting wetter waiting for the others.

The race itself was very well organised, from number pick-up through signposting and marshalling to the bling at the end. Between the copious signs and the many, supportive marshals there was no prospect of getting lost. Not that that would have mattered much: the woods were lovely and there were glorious views from the open spaces.

The icing on the cake was the generous bacon roll from the catering stall, eaten in the dry and warm back in the car.

A cracking day.
