Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

Maidenhead Easter 10 (19th & a big PB)

Sub-60 for the 10 mile has remained elusive for several years and given my other performances so far this year, there was no way I was going to let this slip past me again this year.

I ran just under 59 mins for 16k during the Fleet half so a sub-58 seemed like a good target for today, though not too strict a target as there is a little sting in the tail between 8 and 9 miles which can skew things quite a bit. I set off with the goal of pacing around 3:36/km and for the most part I managed that, and pretty consistently too though the wind was a bit of a challenge at times.

Got to the hill towards the end and slowed down as expected but managed to hold a pretty good pace and passed a few peeps. Turned into the field and into the breeze and got back up to speed before turning into the final mile and pulling out the stops. Put my head down and went for it. Some how I managed to dig in deep and pull out a stack load of energy. Pushed things really hard at the end as I saw I was ever so close to getting under 58mins for the gun time. Not sure if I did it as I didn't actually stop my watch when I crossed the line, but I think I did. We'll see what the official result say.

Even if I didn't dip under 58mins, today's race brings me another big PB. Today I chopped off over 2mins of my previous PB.

And on completely unrelated news, our Prime Minister marshalled at today's race. It was quite strange seeing guys in suits with ear pieces and big cars with blacked out windows at a marshalling point in a local race.

Official results are in. I did it, by the skin of my teeth... chip time and new PB: 57:59!!
