Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

The Brighton Half Marathon 2017. Very happy with how I ran today as the build up to the race wasn't perfect. I had unfortunately had to visit A&E on the preceding Monday due to some concerns with pains I was experiencing in my right lung. Nothing nasty was found, but I left the hospital still experiencing pain and discomfort. So unsurprisingly I had arrived at race day with a mentality of taking it a little easier than I would have liked. In addition, with the forecast of strong winds I felt that aiming for a PB was going to be difficult and potentially unwise.

However, I actually ran a lot harder than I could have imagined, and I felt OK with it. I had a stitch type feeling in my chest, but none of the really unpleasant stabbing pains of earlier in the week. My first 7 miles were ran at an almost PB pace, but then unfortunately the effort of running into the wind took it's toll and I slowed down significantly. I hoped that as we turned around for the final three miles that my pace would pick up again with the wind behind me, but my legs had gone by then and it took all my effort to hang in for the finish.

I couldn't have ran any harder today and have to be happy with that, but there is a little part of me that is thinking "what if" it hadn't been so windy? I'll just have to keep cracking the whip, move into the marathon training, and hope that I can shave off those two minutes the next time I run a half.
