Notes & Comments

Race 4 of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series....The Corby 5 Mile Race.
Good grief that is the hardest race of the series so far even though it is the shortest. The race is just hill after hill after hill some of them steep. Plus the conditions from hell strong wind and driving rain made a hard race even harder. Having run well in the previous 3 races I was off to a flyer with the first 2 miles at 6.30 pace then after 2 miles when the hills kicked it was hard going as I looked to just hang in there and maintain my good start. I dared to hope I might be able to beat my old 5 mile PB of 36.03 but after 4 and a half miles I thought I had blown it as the hills sapped the energy out of my legs and I paid for starting a little too fast. However in the end I was not to be denied and I hung on to claim a new PB which shows how far I have come since my last 5 mile race nearly 12 months agoto get a PB in a hilly race. It would have been quicker had I not been forced into a 15 sec stop as I felt a sharp tweak in my suspect left knee.
Still my good form continues and I look forward to next Weds ( 3rd June ) and race 5 of 8....The Weedon 10k.
4 down and 4 to go.
