Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

Stafford 10K: 40:30 - Not on top form, but great to be running again - and with my Running Bug buddies!

After last week's gruelling HM, and a thigh niggle all week so virtually no training, I was apprehensive about this one. But I wasn't going to miss a chance to meet up with Running Bug friends - especially after Simon Clarke's carefully planned arrangements to make sure we all got together.

We all arrived early, and had a lovely little look-see warm-up together, and then the obligatory photos. And then Andrew Dorsett and I headed off to the start line. We'd been talking about targeting a sub-40 so we wanted to get near the front. But we hadn't planned on being right at the front. I think the other runners took one look at Andrew's physique and decided to line up behind us :) Which left us on the front-line where we were joined by the mayor and mayoress and more obligatory photos. Don't forget to order the next edition of the Stafford Weekly News.

The race? Well, we started fast - too fast - scampering across the road to keep out of the way of an ambulance that came blaring round the corner after about half a mile.

Then I reined back a bit for mile 2 and mile 3, which had a couple of little hills, nothing too much on a fairly nondescript course. By this time Andrew had pulled away to about 100m ahead.

In mile 4, I began to reel him back in - but we were behind the target pace, which is what I muttered to Andrew as I passed him. He wasn't beaten though - 'Still a sub-20 5K' he said. And I wasn't in front of him for long. 5 minutes later he came bounding past again, in good form which he maintained all the way to the end, fractionally missing the target (on a slightly long course) but still setting a great new PB with 40:03 :)

As for me, I wimped my way through the last mile, annoyed at the extra little loop at the very end when I thought we were almost home, and finished in 40:30.

If my time was a little disappointing the Bug meal at the pub afterwards wasn't. Bug beer and bug pie always goes down well after a race.

We were stationary on the M6 for almost 2 hours driving back to Manchester, but it didn't spoil a great day. And well done to Simon Clarke and Helen Woodward, both with big PBs, and to Jackie Trivett, running her first 10K race just a few weeks after starting running with hubby Keith. Where next?
