Awyr Las 5k race in Plas Newydd

Very happy with my run at the Awyr Las 5k trail run. 23:16 on a challenging course, 1st V35 and 3rd lady overall. Yay! I did this as a part of my 13 mile LR, first 5 miles to Plas Newydd, then the race and then 5 miles back, so I didn't expect much of the race itself, bearing in mind that I would have to run back 5 miles with a rucksack.
Was 4th during the first laps and then even 5th for a bit up that deceptively easy looking hill (but it's not!) but had a strong second lap where I regained all positions that I lost towards the end of lap 1 and then improved to 19th overall and 3rd lady overall. Was 2nd for about 50 m or so, overtaking one of the young guns of Menai Track and Field but those youngster do have a finishing kick to which I, a veteran marathon runner, have not proper response. Fair play to the young girl, she deserved her second place and she was happy having beaten an adult to the finish line. :-)
I got a box of Heroes Chocolates and a nice goody bag for my efforts which made the run home a bit harder, having to carry more weight.
