Notes & Comments

South West Inter County Championships 800m. I was selected because I was the only senior man available with the B standard. I was happy to run for Avon for the first time and get an Avon vest but I was really not happy with my run.

I had been feeling crap all morning, very sick and very nervous. It was very warm and I felt very sluggish warming up. There were 6 of us in a straight final. I kept with the pack for the first 200m and then they pulled away going through 400m in around 59/60, I came through in a low 62 but was already struggling. There was one guy behind me (a vet). I kept him behind me until 600m to go and then he pulled out (not sure why) which left me in last place and a good 5 seconds behind anyone else.

Every step felt very laboured, worse than my last race and yet I had done some good training sessions since. Annoyingly, my PB would have giving me 3rd place.
