Worsley Woods parkrun - 19:36 official - broke the all-time V65 course record. 10th/341.

Once again, started a bit too far back (row 5 or so) and had problems getting round slower runners in the first 400 metres. But once past, I settled in nicely, holding just a little bit back for the hilly woods section and the final mile. I could see a couple of runners I wanted to catch about 50m in front of me.

The first mile was still quick - at 6:31, about 20 secs than last time out, 5 weeks ago. And through the woods, I started passing people, including the two I was targeting. I found I had the energy today to accelerate past people on the narrow track. And it wasn't as muddy today. Back onto the home stretch, and the second mile was 7:05 - another 20 sec improvement.

So then the final push. I knew the V65 course record was 19:41, and I was in with a chance of beating it, as well as smashing my own previous 20:10 best. I managed to hold it together pretty well, and I knew I wasn't too far off the front, with the field well strung out. A couple of dashers passed me in the last half mile ... but I was home in an official 19:36, and feeling pretty good. The extra miles and interval training this week have paid off.
