Tough run at Southend. Got the box ticked for number 8 here. Pleased to keep the run going. Knew I was in bad shape so enjoyed myself last night for the England game. Plenty of beers Chilli and Curry was not ideal pre race nutrition.
Good weather for running today, a big muggy and a little rain but not hot as it has been previously. We were a little rushed at the start, believing it was a 10 o'clock start and then finding out it had changed this year to half 9. The lack of build up was good and I just met up with Charlotte and got on with it.
Charlotte said she was aiming for anything below 1:55. That suited me fine and we ran together for the first 3km or so. The pace was too hot for me though and I backed off and let her drift up the road.
I was working hard, but felt comfortable enough through the first third of the race. Saw all my supporters Lauren, Graeme, Ian, Rachel and Simon. Also saw Jimmy at the sharp end looking strong, I cheered him but he was too in the zone. He finished 4th in 1:16. Incredible!
My first slow km was the 12th but that was for a shoe lace. The first walk break was in the 14th km and I took short walk breaks each km from there to the finish. I just felt like my batteries had run out and legs were heavy. The time was about what I expected but the walking was disappointing. I was pleased to keep them to a minimum though and to keep each km below 6 minutes.
The rain come down hard just as I finished. Met up with Charlotte who had run really well for a 1:47 and a PB and got a photo before we jumped in the car and headed for the color run at Wembley.
