This was a lovely little race. Well attended and the weather was a lot better than everyone was expecting. Very cold, but no rain, and a wind that only really became noticeable in the last 3 miles (probably the worst time for it to become noticeable really).
I was using this as a warm up for the Brighton half in a few weeks time and although I'm still quite a bit off challenging my PB, I am happy with where I am currently managing to run a half in under 7.30/mile. I'll push it a little more at Brighton and try and go for a sub 1.35 I think.
There are a couple of improvements that could be made to the race. I think the marshalls were struggling with some irate drivers not being able to cross at junctions, so maybe they need to put out more notice? I'm also not too keen on the water stations handing out cups as it's bloody difficult to drink them while on the move. The last 100 metres or so REALLY narrows down as well, so it would make those last minute overtaking manoevures almost impossible. Finally, it's quite an expensive event at over £30. I would expect a *little more in the goodie bag, but at the time of writing I'm still waiting for my result! Surely setting up a text message system like most other halfs, and even parkrun, wouldn't be that tricky?
