Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

That went well. With injury problems in the past month, a new distance, and a challenging hilly route, I wasn't expecting too much. I'd set a target of 1:12:30 and would have been happy with anything sub 1:15:00.

Knowing there were 2 big hills at the back end, I ran within myself at the beginning ... and was pleased to find that a comfortable pace was sub 7 mins/mile.

Yesterday's storms had subsided, but we got a drenching about 20 mins in and the wind was brisk. But the first real challenge came with a tough little hill after 3.5 miles - earlier than I'd expected. Fortunately we didn't run it all the way to the top but turned off the main road onto farm tracks, muddy, deep potholes and puddles, but downhill - with cows and horses as spectators.

Back onto the road and the big hill at 5 miles was a really long drag - pace down to almost 9 mins/mile. But what goes up comes down, and I made the pace back up there.

With the final hill at 8.5 miles I knew I was on for a good time if I could just keep it going - and I did, with enough energy still left for a bit of a burst for the final half mile, through the pack and a circuit of the running track.

A terrific varied course, brilliant marshals, and the best goody bag I've had so far ... and as an added bonus, I won a pair of Hoka One shoes for coming first in my age-group. I'll be back for this one next year.

Three Things You Saw Today

1 A horse as race spectator - clearly wishing he was running too.
2 Best marshals ever at Stockport 10 - using our names as we passed to call encouragement.
3 Potholes and puddles
