The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
A really pleasing effort today at Southend. Was within my 1:40-1:45 bracket. Went out at more like 1:38 pace but after halfway I was having to dig so deep.
Was pretty ideal conditions especially for Southend in June. It was muggy and a little hotter than forecast but still much cooler than many other years. Not a lot of breeze.
I felt good early on, I saw Rachel from work and her family after 2.5 miles and she told me her brother was beating me. I haven't met him but we have spoken about his times at work, and in my current shape we should be running fairly similar times.
The first lap was good out to the turn around point at the Sealife centre about 4 miles in. I'm not quite sure which way was wind assisted or wind against the breeze was that light.
Headed back and saw Rachel again and was told I was gaining. I knew I was working hard enough already so wasn't searching for Dave but it kept my mind occupied.
I passed what turned out to be Dave, Rachel's brother about half way, and then eased away. Even though I faded second half, his fade was greater. He finished in 1:48 though for a very credible first effort.
As you can see the first 7 miles were in that 7:24 - 7:38 bracket. The next 6 are then in the 7:52 - 8:05. So I was pretty pleased to hold it together 2nd half, and the prospect of Dave behind me definitely kept me trudging onwards.
I hung a left off the seafront at around 10.5 miles and this is the part of the race I have never enjoyed. It's a little uphill and I never seem to be running strong at this point.
A couple of Billericay ladies charged up the hill past me, and then one of them was on her knees looking ready to puke. Crazy move with 2 miles to go! Her friend went on and looked strong enough.
A guy in a blue shirt held my attention on the run to the finish, cutting the corners at every opportunity. Very poor form, and it was so obviously not the racing line. I ran the true course and was very pleased to beat him on the sprint to the line.
Saw Lauren just before this and gave her my best smile and wave. Then round the corner and over the line, stopping my watch just before 1:42.
Heart rate data went a bit off after 8 miles, or maybe I was just taking it easy. It definitely didn't feel that way!

Nice work Si. Very pleased to see such a solid result and that you are exactly where you expected to be. As Luke says, now focus is the Ironman!
