Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

No.8 ™ Greensand Ridge Relay - From Leighton Buzzard to Northill, just outside Biggleswade. I was allocated leg 1 - a 5.4 mile, unmarked run with a bit of a description from the website, but not much else! The handicap system meant I would be starting at 12.33pm and the temperature on the car as I pulled in the car park - 30 degrees!

I was the only team member who hadn't recce'd their leg and I was under severe pressure not to get lost. I started the leg with another team 2 minutes in front of me and another 6 minutes in front - the plan was to give it what for down the tow path of the Grand Union canal (about 2 miles) and then take it easy over the multi terrain bit and see if I could keep sight of someone to follow.

First 2 miles were easy with a 5:35 and 5:50 split, overtaking both teams in front of me. Then as the course went off road it got harder and quite undulating, I let one of the others teams catch up and used him to guide me for the rest of the leg. Encountered bridges, woods, undergrowth, gates, styles and dirt tracks, it was bloody hot and I hated it.

Rolled my ankle on a tree root, but managed to finish in 38:49 to handover the baton to my team mate. Give me a long, straight, dull road course any day!!
