Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Go-KL The five months I had spent in Coventry had seen me dramatically change the way in which I trained. Free of the London bustle and pollution and spurred on by a less than brilliant 10km in June and a lot of weight gain, I set about on a regimented training schedule for the first time, which included daily cycle commutes to and from work - firstly 16 miles a day and then from August of 26 miles a day; gym sessions 3 times a week (The first time I had used a gym) and regular running which included some regular runs of 16 miles (The first time I had gone over 13 miles in training for a half marathon.
The result was I was down to 11 stone from over 12 five months earlier and felt as if I could do some damage to my half marathon best, set on the same course at Bracknell two years earlier.
I remember the day dawned bitterly cold - too cold for the robot runner featured in Runner's World that I think malfunctioned, but warmed up to be sunny at the gun (The picture of me has the glasses I still have in my car!)
Racing for the first time in racing trainers (I tried to use them at Silverstone this year - but they are a little worn now) I went off running 6:20 miles - my intention clear to shatter my best. My girlfriend was on hand to offer me drinks at halfway - her presence a welcome feature.
I struggled from 8 miles onwards with a stitch but this didn't stop me setting a PB by four minutes, an achievement that left me delighted and determined to continue my training.
