Capricorn Flat and on-road, I really want to aim for sub 3:45 (gfa). I've done 3:48 off-road this year so it's possible. Sorry to everyone who bet on me, but I'm afraid I couldn't quite do it this time. I managed 3:46:22 which is frustratingly close to a GFA and exactly 5 minutes off my pb. It was a perfect route - 2 loops of a very flat course, with a slight variation on the 2nd loop, but the COLDEST and RAINIEST marathon I have ever done. My shoes were soaked in minutes and it poured, verging on sleet, the whole way round. I ended up running in the bright yellow plastic cover we got in the goody bag the whole way - very attractive !! The first 3m were very slow because of a large 1/2 marathon and 10km field starting at the same time on quite narrow roads. Only consolation is that I did a negative split for the first time - probably because of the slow start, but overall I was still pleased. Nice medal, and very interesting city - rebuilding work still going on, but all buildings being restored exactly as they were before the bombing.
