Edinburgh Half Marathon, bus or train back ? I am doing the half and hope to stay and watch my clubmates finish the marathon later. We are stopping in Edinburgh centre close to Waverley Station, is it easy to get a train back rather than the shuttle bus ?. We have a railcard and it is only a back fiver, plus no crawling through traffic. Anybody got the train back, is it far to the station at the finish ? Thanks.

I did the marathon in 2011. We had tickets for the shuttle bus (easy walking distance from the Finish). When we got there, it was obvious that the wait would be horrendous. Then we spotted the train station just over the road. We were lucky and a train pulled in straightaway. Needless to say, every carriage was absolutely rammed solid with runners. So, a very, very cramped, hot and smelly journey into Waverley. To be honest, it is the fact that the transport is so dire that stops me - as a non-driver- from entering this again.

I just walked onto a bus at the end of 2011, no queue. I found the walk a bit of a drag, but I had bonked and was unwell anyway.
