Cycling is a hard one, I fluctuate between road or mtb. So my speeds vary, although tbf I’m generally shit.

There's no obligation on anyone to stay in the cycling league (or any league) if they'd rather not. I just copied everyone across to get us started.

Cycling is a hard one, I fluctuate between road or mtb. So my speeds vary. As a non-cyclist, I'm struggling a bit with this one. How is the fluctuation/variation between road and mtb speeds philosophically different to the variation between road and trail running that's already baked into the Run tables? I'm not being critical or denying the variability, just wondering why there's a concern for cyclists when there isn't an equivalent issue for runners. |

I think it’s fair to assume that a much higher proportion of runners here are racing on reasonably flat roads (occasionally) than cyclists are racing on reasonable flat roads. As such, the former are far more likely to have a portfolio that’s reasonably representative of their real ability. Of course, as fetch pointed out, anyone can opt out anyway. |

Not really concerned tbh. Just stating something, road cycling is generally far faster than off road. Different types of bike are used. It’s all a bit of fun though, so really who cares😀 |

IMO if someone wants to move up the WAVA leagues (like me) they can make the choice of the best course, equipment, etc before starting the outing. Pretty daft to attempt a pb mile on trails, but if I want to I can. As it stands now I can also do that training mile downhill. To act scrupilously fair I would have to avoid hills in my threshold training sessions (which would be inconvenient in Norway! Having said that, none of my current scores are dependent on downhills.) That wihld be silly. I suspect most people would want to draw the line at some form of additional assistance to my power, like a motor on a bicycle. I'm quite happy to attempt my mile in supershoes as they hopefully remove some losses rather than add power. |

Virtually all my races are trail and all are hilly. My joint best 5k from the last year was the second half (as good as all downhill) of a fell race.

I don't get cycle racing. Surely there is track and road racing? And road courses designed to be flat for time trial speed? In fact I know there is cos 1 of only 2 timed cycles I have ever done was a 10 mile TT - out and back round a cone cos its a totally flat section of road. Anyhoo - that's cyclists' business! Loving the new WAVA version of running UTMOST! I have no problem with 1 mile downhill. Won't be many 5 milers all downhill! G |

Nord Rundeer 🦌 my mile was on the track, 5k was a fast course in supershoes. Its fun so I have no issue with anything people do. None of my other distances are raced, usually pace making. |
