Bob!
Just coming back from Injury, did a 4 miler on Tuesday. 8 miles today including 1 mile originally planned as a P&D tempo mile ( Half mara pace 7.55), started out and watch was at 7.11 pace 171 bpm, which is my 85% WHR, so decided to stick with 85%.

So, 1 mile (with 100ft ascent) at 7.28 pace 85% WHR.

Had been planning to do a P&D 10k Schedule as my Summer training which includes some 3 mile tempo runs at Half mara pace. I Guess now I've been sucked into doing those tempo runs at 85%.

Is that the right thing to do?

Sarfend 10k as the main target, though there will be others along the way, plus 5 milers and hopefully 5k. I will also be slotting Sarfend Half into the summer schedule.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
