PB is 48:28, and I did the last 6 miles at Sandy in 47:10. Could my plan to take all my PB's this year get the perfect start?

Hmm, obviously I thought that oo pammie, having thought 182 was the highest, but I did nearly throw up after I crossed the line and I don't thin I have ever done that before. According to Graeme the Garmin I did the last 200-300m at 4:00 pace which is about as fast as I go! Maybe there is a beat or two extra but to be quite honest I don't think I'd want to find out!!

Lums, I felt like that after our sprint off a couple of weeks ago. I was going pretty much flat out when I pushed my MAX to 202 but I am still convinced that I could get it up another couple of notches. Maybe I should have gone flat out with my chest infection!

Nice one Lums!

What heart rate range do you all do your intervals at?

I did my first intervals a couple of weeks ago at my 5k pace but my hr only averaged about 80% so I've heard this is too low, my 5k was quite a while ago. The schedule Im using recommends this or heart rate range of 93% to 98% WHR.

The intervals I've got to do are 5 x 600 metres with 90 secs jog inbetween. I thought the hr would be fine but then it mentions not doing them too hard which is quite difficult at 98%! So this got me a bit confused!

Also will it be difficult to get my heart rate upto 93% on 600m interval?

Intervals? What are Intervals

seriously though not even started speedwork really of any description, but Jack D says 95-100% VO2 max which is 98-100% MHR. Thats pretty high

I just try and do all speed work or "hard days" at over 85% andthat seems to be working nicely. It equates to roughly 10k pace on longer intervals or sub 5k pace on 800m or less

nice steady run with Lums last night, first one for 10 days due to chest infection. It gave me loads of confidence and I was suprised at my HR coming in at 68% for 9:45 pace over 5km. Really ready to push on now with a few longer steady runs prior to FLM. I definitely noticed how fresh my legs felt but I always notice a difference in my HR when running at night after I have eaten.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
