I reckon this HR training works you know! LAthouh I have to say as I looked at Garmin on way to car park I was absolutuly gast flabbered to see my max HR was 188!! I've been working off a 182 Max for 15 months or so!

The mere thought of it has put me right off Intervals I can tell you. Another 5 BPM for 85%!!

....but it means you will have been running well under 70% Lums, which is a very good thing!

Footnote to that statement: A very good thing for base training, like what you are doing, or for increasing mileage, other training methods are available yaddah yaddah yaddah. Run slow race fast.

Well done Lums!

4 minutes off your pb is impressive!

Did 22 miles today, took me 3:12:02 so average pace 8.44/mile.

I didnt stick to sub 70%.I did sub 70% for the first 8.5 miles then upto 75% for the next 8.5 miles, last 5 miles was upto 78%. Average heart rate was71%.

Quite pleased with the time as my last 20 miler was 9.00/mile pace at a slighlty higher average heart rate.

How long does anyone think it will take to do my marathon after that run?

Bob!
3 hours 12 mins for your marathon.

I've read in many places (probably all on here) that your 22mile LSR should equate to the same time on your feet as your Marathon would.

My 22 miler for FLM was done in 3.38 at 67%. My last half marathon 3 weeks ago was 1.44 at 77%. Fetch predicts a 3.37 based on that. I'm going to aim for 3.45.

Ian - based on that I would say.... I haven't got the foggiest idea.

I know you are opposed to the idea of sub 70% runs, but why the increases? Were you running by HR or pace? What was the theory behind that plan - was it your own idea? I'm just curious.

Thanks Bob.

Hendo, Im following P&D's Advanced Marathoning schedule and they recommend starting at a lower hr around 65% and gradually increasing it so for last 5 miles you are doing close to 78%. They say this simulates the demands of a marathon better than just running slow running.

I have been doing this for alll of my long runs during this schedule and it seems to be working fine upto now.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
