London Marathon 2011 - so chuffed to get just under a 3 min pb (and previous one was in 2004 when a mere youngster!) and also under the 4hrs.Great note to end on cos definitely my last- as always-as can see from splits-fell apart at the end and I just dont seem to be able to conquer that.Gorgeous day -went to red start with Thomas Welsh John and Kevin and we spent a couple pleasant hours sipping coffee amid multiple toilet visits! Had major dilemma of whether to waer a hat or not cos of the sun but i the end decided not- too superstitious to change any clothing-only exception was weraing swervers gel belt which proved brilliant as kept my hands free to hold a bottle of water which I did for most of the race-drinking and dousing myself. They were very strict about putting us in our correct zones to start but fortunately I was in zone 5 out of 9 Which was great and no bottleneck at the start as have experienced before.First mile too fast (I know-I did try -honest) but successfuky slowed it down and really enjoyed the race at pretty steady pace as planned.Caught emma and elaine at about 9 miles and ran with them for a bit and then had sighting of rken and the girls to look forward to at 11 miles.Next looking forward to was 16 miles with the WJ marshalls which was great at a time when needed a bit of a boost. Then all well when spotted rken and the troops again at 19 miles and then slowlystarted to struggle.felt my legs needed more energy - had had about 9 shot bloks but started to feel sick - I think just cos felt so hot-and so didnt dare use any more- by about 21-22 miles was really struggling but lots of things kept me going- largely the fact that all the family had come to watch me by various means and they hadnt come to see me walk! and also cos did not want to end my last marathon on a low and cos I really wanted that good for age time.Anyway somehow held it together and so fantastic to see Viv,Ron and the family and friends on birdcage walk and then that finish line was just awesome! Great to meet with everyone at w tree and some brilliant runs and PBs by Paul, scoops,John Richmond,Emma,Elaine and SGJ.Left to have slap up meal in a pub in finsbury park with friends amidst loads of Arsenal fans!.Fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed ( apart from those last miles!) Thanks to all werrington joggers and everyone for their support and especially to Tim and carol for organisation. Now time for that glass of wine after 11 days abstinence!

YES YES YES what a high to finish on. Enormous congrats, was thinking of you and willing you all on. Great write up and strength to battle on over those last few miles. Pub time Tuesday. Very happy for you. x
great stuff jude, we all knew you would smash the 4 hrs even if you didn't want to admit it. well paced at the end making sure you came in under time and keeping it steady. its all fully deserved after all the hard training you have put in. i bet i am not the only one who doesn't believe its your last one, few weeks then you will be thinking next time sub 3.50 and the fun will begin again. nearly missed you when you came through but glad we managed a quick shout you looked very fresh then. enjoy the rest and look forward to hearing all about it
