Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Diogenes Run as training run not as race. Plan was to do an easy 10 miles at 9mm pace and then the last 5k at 8mm pace. Did almost exaxtly that, jsut a bit quicker. Still feels frustrating being 7mins slower than last year even though I know wasn't racing this.

Katemate Longest I've ever ran - against heavy, bitter wind & hailstones. Surely if I can do this, I can do anything? Had immense fun, did not at any point want to pull out, smiled the entire time, & finished 13 mins ahead of what I thought it'd take. So proud of myself!

la abeja Hail, freezing cold, and dodgy knee didn't help with this one. Organisation wasn't great. My time is from my Garmin not my official race time - they apparently turned the chip timer system off at about 2h45, of which there was no warning in any of the race info. Some people (well ahead of me) had to wait to get over the finish line because the finish area wasn't clearing quickly enough and the marshalling in some of the areas where there were crossovers and switchbacks was non-existent, especially for those at the back (who were hampered by runners who had finished just milling about in the middle of the course. The route is nice, but everything else was a bit rubbish.

Mr Woo Apart from the weather all went pretty well. The course was a bit tight n twisty for first couple of miles n coulda been marshalled / organised better, but once out in the open u were able to run ur own race. Rain n headwind not very nice but only 30 secs off pb from last yr so pretty happy.

northern_runner Difficult conditions - windy and rain at the start and towards the end. A bit congested at the start too, so I lost about a minute in the first couple of miles. My main reason for doing it was to get some familiarity with parts of the Brighton Marathon course, so mission accomplished!

Perfect Organism Personally I enjoyed this race, although I definitely agree with people on the poor organisational aspects of the race.

No mile markers was the main thing that bugged me. You just didn't know if you were pacing yourself appropriately for that section of the race.
More toilets were needed.
It was a stramash at the start. People were not organised into sections by expected finish time, probably because they were too busy waiting for a piss or to hand their bag in.
There were no volunteers at the baggage collection points at the end.
The roads were not completely closed off so there were pedestrians nipping across in front of you from time to time.
There were no warnings about static street objects, eg. fences, benches, cones. Just read another runners report about a poor lassie falling over a bench and smashing her face. That kind of stuff should just not happen and I too hope she is OK.
The finish line was congested. It didn't affect me, but I would be really pissed off if it had.
I didn't mind the weather too much. It kept you cool.
Saying that though, I enjoyed this race greatly (believe it or not) and I will do it again next year, but PLEASE organisers, listen to these criticisms. They are easily resolved and if left unattended, potentially very dangerous.

Zehnderboy Very happy, not surprised that I didn't achieve a PB, 2 years older, 1 stone heavier, only 4 weeks to train and a whole lot unfitter. Uber-frustrating at the beginning with lots of runners narow streets, sharp turns and some runners clearly not in the right starting pen. I was glad to have my garmin (no visible mile markers) as I wouldn't have known otherwise how far through the race I was. Conditions were also very tough especially the drag out to Hove, however my splits were pretty consistent until the last 2 miles but I did have enough left for a bit of a quick finish - overall very satisfied will run again but will try and edge further up the field at the start next year - oh and bring a spare pair of socks and trainers for after the race.
