Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

@AndyS Congratulations on completing my course. Didn’t think anyone would actually do it!

Thanks @NDWDave - it's fairly nearby, so I thought I'd go out and try it out.

Have raised a feature request (number 2046) to help plotting routes around course - "On the "Plot-a-Route" page to be able to filter by "Orienteering Flags" to help complete a route in the Fetch Orienteering Game"

Just to doublecheck - If i do a course - I obviously need to pass through all the flags, but (1) must the 1st flag be the Start and (2) I guess I can finish at any flag ?

Hoping to do @Zeb tour of Lincoln tomorrow for a bit of sightseeing

Would have to read back to be certain but, from memory,

Yes - recording of your attempt begins when you pass the start. You can visit other flags before you get there but they won't 'count'.

Yes - you can visit the flags in any order and recording will end at whichever one you visit last.

(And I seem to recall a similar feature request previously - there were some issues around deciding which flags belonged to which route in areas where routes overlap)

@Snail The game guide is here fetcheveryone.com/ori

According to that:

You only need to pass through 5 flags (including the start? I'm not sure).
You have to start at the start flag.
You can finish anywhere "Fetch will end your attempt at the last flag you collect"

Interestingly you can complete multiple courses on the same run/walk/crawl, so long as you pass all the start flags and each of the course's flags thereafter.
t takes a bit of planning to get them all correct, but it's doable :)

Thanks @Zeb for your orienteering course around Lincoln. Took us 5:30 hours for the 5k route but that also included stopping for lunch and looking around the castle and cathedral. So that time is beatable!! Route took us to some interesting parts of the city that otherwise we would have missed so thanks for that

About This Thread

I had an idea the other day whilst walking with Katie. A lot of Fetch games rely on randomly-placed markers to encourage you to vary your routes - but what if you could design your own virtual orienteering course? Drop a dozen or so virtual flags on the map, and then you've got a challenge for yourself and anyone else who is passing through the area.

I've built some pages that allow you to construct a course:

fetcheveryone.com/ori

There are some notes on that page ...
