7 miles this morning at 151 bpm = 71%. I was cruising at 69% and 10:30 until I hit the headwind for 2 miles on the way home. Battled to keep it under 75% despite only doing 11:20 pace. Happy with overall and would have been well undeer were it not for the very strong wind (pats self on back for going out it in!).

7 mile sthis morning with Joopsy. We didn't actually discuss a pace but both seemed to naturally fall into 9:30 pace. turned out that was 73% for me.

Then last 0.2m Joopsy announces a sprint for the line - I peaked at 180bpm (max 182), but Joopsy said his read 202, which is 9 more than his previous Max!

Gsrmin said fastest pace on the sprint was 3:53pace. So I could have pushed on for another 0.8m and done a 4 minute mile. I could have, had I not been completely knackered after 200m or so!

Lums, mine came out at 74% with my new WHR. I only said to you this morning that I thought it could get a lot higher than 193 and lo and behold there we go. I think I could have sustained this pace for at least another 10 yards before collapsing. As per usual though my extra 23 lbs showed in the sprint finish!

It has made far more sense to my training now though and given me an extra 6 bpm's for my 70%. Lookng at my training now I can see that 10mm over a sustained period is well achievable for me. I don't think I will be doing that finish after 20 miles on Saturday!

Not been here for a while, but still trying some HR training on long runs and some shorter easy runs in the week, mixed up with faster effort .... but it seems to be working.

I have a 4.82 mile route that I run fairly regularly.

3 September 07 11:40 mins/mile 71% 159 bpm

26 January 08 11:33 mins/mile 67% 153 bpm
12 March 08 11:08 mins/mile 69% 154 bpm

The % don't quite match up because I've changed my resting HR down to 55 bpm, but left my max where it was at 199. And it was a bit windy yesterday.

Excellent work Icemaiden!

Joopsy, can I have your extra 6bpm please. Actually I think Icould have gone on for a few miles like that, as my wheezing prone body was testament to!

Yes Lums, you looked like you could have carried on for quite a distance, it was the way that you were bent double that really gave me that impression.

Emailed Mr Fetch last Night, asking whether he could add HR% to the fields you see when you save or update a run.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
