Have been running for 38 years and I used to love running marathons, but have got bored with it all. The combination of charlatans who wear 100 MC shirts but walk the distance, along with my own deterioration in form has resulted in me no longer enjoying the challenge.
I've got 165 marathons including 21 ultras done and will now find something different to do. The idea of racing less but focusing on ultras is an obvious choice. Show More...

This run pretty much summarises my running at the moment. I started out pretty rough with a hangover and plodded through the first 4 miles until I hit the bogs at Roehampton Gate. After that I livened up a bit but still wasn't flowing. And the late on I was unpredictable and running really well.

Incredibly slow. Yes it was 4.45am but even if it had been mid morning, I doubt I would have been much quicker.
This might not be a bad thing though. I need my hip to be ironed out tomorrow. This was fine but my mind is not with it because I'm conscious that things don't feel right.

A decent enough long run that I decided to schedule in rather than go to Walton today (I found a race next weekend instead).
The first few miles were awkward and I felt pretty clunky. After I stopped at the bogs in R Park at R Gate, I told myself that I needed to settle into the run. I immediately then trod a rock and hurt my foot. It kind of woke me up. By the time I left at Ham Gate I was started to get into the run. And by the time I got to the YMCA and was heading back home I felt as if I was properly into the run. That was when I decided I would jog through to 15m and then slightly increase the pace. It was getting hot, but nothing terrible. I was never completely comfortable late on but I was at least in control of the run. Overall, I'll take this. Hardly slept last night due to the heat and noisy neighbours. Felt groggy but this was not a bad run given it had only just gone 4.30am.
Trying to work out if my favourite red Ghosts have had it or not. If they give me ankle pain, they are getting retired. That all said, my left ankle went ping just after 1 mile when I hit the tow path.
