CB. Very pleased by time given I suffered from a niggle in the outside of right knee from 4 miles. Finished strongly but glad to finish

Cookie All my long runs this year have been in the last couple of months and since Harlow in August I haven’t been running much because of a niggly calf so, initially, I was only hoping to break 1:10. After last week’s Surrey League cross country I began to expect to break it.

I started out too fast but at least it got me clear of the masses. I slowed down in mile three but the fourth was way to quick for me and the woman I had been running with pulled away. I went through halfway in 32.45 but was beginning to struggle and my hip was starting to play up. I had a torrid time in the next 2½ miles and lost a lot of places, but things picked up when I reached the towpath and was able to up the pace. Over Richmond Bridge I started regaining some of those lost places. I was amazed to see the time when I turned into York House. I was not expecting to be that far inside 1.10.

For the record, it was my 5th fastest 10 mile race ever and my 3rd fastest since I began running seriously three years ago. I’m well chuffed :o)

Covert A bit out of shape and first time i'd run this far since April, so on the day I decided that a sub-70 would be good enough. Mission accomplished and a great race!

GAZGIB Nice and steady race with extremly equal splits. Just inside my predicted time. Quite why people betted on me as my PB is sub 73min I'm not sure. Sorry to let you down but my last race was over 30 mins off my PB for a half marathon. Have to mention that this race has a higher than average volume of very pretty competitors and as such I'll be back next year.

Hollywoof! Before I like this race :-) BET ON ME AND WIN! Trust me, I'm a doctor*

After
Going into this fairly confident as:
- current PB is 1:12:07 set in April
- ran through the 10 mile marker in GNR in 1:12:09 two weeks ago
- this is my localest race and its flat flat flat.

Left home 14 minutes before race start (sadly there was a queue for the pre-race toilet - even at home!)

Got to the start line with 4 minutes to spare...

Then we're off!
1 - 6:34 - way too fast - slow down!
2 - 6:45 - still way too fast!
3 - 6:52 - still too fast!
4 - 7:04 - legs feel heavy - have I cooked it?
5 - 6:58 - half way in around 34:15 - well below target
6 - 6:44 - passed on 5 miles by clubmate - use him to tow me along
7 - 6:59 - still using clubmate as tow
8 - 6:25 - still using clubmate as tow - also pickup new tow - TooMuchWater who's moaning about how bad his race is... work out I can run at 8:30 per mile and still PB :-)
9 - 7:45 - suspect mile 8 marker was wrong? - this split is not as bad as it seems - still using clubmate and TMW as tows
10 - 6:33 - fast finish - lots of spectators

Finish - 1:08:47 - sorted - first race this long under 7m/m - and if I can do this again then 1:29:xx for a half is possible :o)

JEJ Suprised myself! Awaiting official time, but should be about right, give or take (hopefully) a second. About 27:30 at half way, so pleased to keep up a decent pace for the second half, which was a bit tougher than the first.

Kinsey Decided to run with my friends Suzie and Jane rather than bat off on my own and then get slower and slower. Did about a 10min mile for the first one which I thought might scupper our 90 minute deadline but it seems like we must have done negative splits for the rest of the race which was great news for me, as I normally do the opposite!

Very glad to get in under 90 mins although as i can normally do 90 mins on very little training I am a bit disappointed not to have been closer to 85 mins as I did a couple of long runs prior to the event which seemed to make no difference at all!

Great weather, great race, great to see Holly and Shiraz on the run in to the finish which sped me up a bit!

Found it surprisingly hard work on the flat. Nice course, very well marshalled, great fun.

Managed to scrape a PB.

Brompton back to Ealing, collect the family and long drive back to Manchester so missed out on the post race.

The Outlaw First race since London Marathon. Ran fairly well but lacked speed (haven't done any speedwork for 6 months). Aimed for 61:00. Mile 1 @5:57, then settled into 6:12 miling, somewhat off the pace. Midway in 31:00. Good sprint finish. 5th Vet 50. 79.16% age graded.
