Hooray! A successful donation today. Last time my Hb was 124 and the time before that they cocked up putting the needle in so it was unsuccessful.

Today I didn't need even my Hb checked on the machine. Five minutes on the nose; cheese and onion crisps and plenty of water afterwards.

As someone who regularly gets sent packing from the donation attempt due to low iron I managed for I think the first time my blood sank straight away.

I have now given 16 donations and last year I donated shortly after one marathon and in the build up to my next. I was advised against it as it could have affected my race but figured giving blood was more important so did. By time I’d done the 2nd marathon I was exhausted and had to take some time out.

I gave blood on Wednesday after last years experience I took Thursday off, Fridays run wasn’t too bad I took it steady but yesterday and today has been terrible I almost turned round after a 1/2mile. Is it normal to feel like this? I can’t say I’ve ever noticed it before. TIA

Just been looking at Garmin stats and my body battery is really low and stress markers are high. I normally have a resting HR of late 40-early 50’s but it’s being mid 60’s since the donation.

I usually have performances a bit below par for 3-4 days afterwards and then it gradually picks back up and after about 10 days I am as I was before the donation but it can be different for everybody and if your iron count is usually low, maybe you just take a little longer to get back to normal?

A good excuse to have a little recovery week.

GG, yes! A bad run could be co-incidence - they can happen for no obvious reason - but a bad run four days after a blood donation could be due to the donation. Remember also that a blood donation is a 600-ish calorie hit. If you're currently trying to lose weight, skimping on food in addition to taking a 600-calorie hit is likely to have a bit of an impact.

(Four days after a blood donation, I expect a slower pace for perceived effort/heart rate but it would be unusual to have a real bummer that I couldn't retrieve. I had one of those

struggling runs a couple of days ago despite being as close to my next donation as my last one.)

Fragile Do Not Bend
It makes sense that your heart rate is going to be a bit higher after a donation, you have fewer red blood cells so they have to be sent round a bit quicker to get the same amount of oxygen to your body.
