Just wondering what type of training runs people who train twice a day do? I do three quality sessions a week with two long runs and wondered when and how hard people trained when they did two a day? At the moment, I'm working towards a marathon in May and want extra miles in the bank! Cheers!

I don't do doubles myself but a guy i train with does. He would do an easy 4-5miles on a Tuesday and Thursday morning. This is before a Speed and Tempo session that evening

When I do doubles one is always as easy run maybe 4-6 miles as a slowish pace.

The other session is always easy/steady so is purely aerobic base building.

I do doubles on quality days as there is an idea that an easier run earlier in the day (4-6 window for maximum effect, followed by a meal and a nap if you can) releases a hormone that lowers the effort for the same pace output during the session.

I cannot remember what said hormone is called...helpful of me ;)

However, it also warms you up for the session and is of a benefit aerobically as well.

That's the double run not the hormone. I want an edit button :p

LOL, nothing like a 20 mile morning run followed by a 10 mile PM run

I miss the old days

I do doubles. I have to say that I don't necessarily buy the hormOne business, but a gentle 7-8 in the morning and then something serious in the afternoon feels good to me.

I am a plodder.. my fitness is in the back of the pack league. However what I notice is that whenever I try and move out of my place if I do it too quickly and try and get with the mid to front pack it backfires big time.

I am thinking it could be good for you to do what your doing now but try to add in a mile or 2mile slow as the double... some will pooh pooh this but as a streaker I can say to you it's amazing what difference a mile makes

And - it's a start - you can build up from there - at least it wont wreck the level your at at the moment and will help you build the habbit
