Here, Morrissons also caused an outcry by building on what used to be the lifestock market. You can park on their car park for free for up to 1.5 hours though so I use that a lot 😂😂😂

Similarly Hann, the Morrisons in my childhood home town is on top of the old cattle market site and football club ground. (Along with M&S!)
However, the cattle market had been defunct for a good few years (I can just about remember it as a child) and the football team was never that good! (They did get a nice new shiny ground and stand out of the deal.)

Here the livestock market was the very active weekly hub of the farming community. It has changed the town and not for the good! The hustle and bustle is gone of whole families descending on town once a week

Yep, I think that's an issue with loosing traditional markets of all kinds. It used to be that on Tuesday the whole town was "full", even if that was the only day. It probably brought in enough other revenue to make it viable to have other "speciality" shops. (And the town shops used to do half day closing on Wednesday afternoon too!)
I don't feel many people from the outlying villages think "Ooh, it's time for the weekly shop in the supermarket, let's all go and have a day in town" in quite the same way. And certainly not all on the same day of the week.

No, exactly! The cafe doing all day breakfasts has had to close: not enough footfall! I reckon they survived on market day alone! Lots of shops closed to be replaced by Costa and the like. A small town really does not need multiple cr@p coffee outlets!!! We have a couple of independent cafes doing a much better job...

A Costa opened near me and didn’t last very long, folk stuck by their wee independents. Unfortunately that’s seldom the case.

Finally, my present to myself after 40 years of working has arrived. This is what I raided my pension pots for earlier this year.
Probably the one and only brand new car that I will ever buy for myself.

I’ve recently learnt that our closest Morrisons does 3h free parking which will be convenient for parkrun and a bit of shopping after.
