far too much normally! All I needed overnight was a windproof to keep me warm although I was carrying a l/s base layer and tights too.

Over the winter I'd wear tights & l/s linebreak baselayer with a s/s t-shirt over, beanie or buff, and lightweight gloves. I'd probably carry waterproof trousers, either a windproof (paramo fuera) or warm waterproof (paramo velez) if likely to be zero or below, and possibly a spare l/s top. Will always have spare socks, gloves and hat too.

Fantastic race. Loved it! Having only run 35 miles before I was going a bit into the unknown but I managed to keep going to win 1st MV45, joint 5th overall and 4th man home (17 hours 15 mins). Briefly met Anna Finn somewhere in the first couple of miles. Also got taught how to walk up hills by Jen (was that Jen J?) between the 1st couple of checkpoints. Somehow I find walking harder than running :( Also met a Fetch supporter on mountain bike on the lane out of Goring who made sure I was heading in the right direction (thanks). Caught up with Insomniac somewhere before CP6 and ran together onto finish. Somehow I found running this huge distance easier than some marathons I've raced. Thinking in checkpoints rather than miles meant the race was only 10 sections long (quite short really).

Superb performance zoyen. Def 10 sections long. Didn't feel so short for me. :-)

Jen J - I remember now her name was Jenny and she was a past member of the LDWA.
Flanker - I can't help with the secret to walk up hills quickly because I can't do it. I seem to puff and pant when I stop running and start walking. I guess I'm just not a very efficient walker. The Jenny I met early in the race could walk as fast as I could jog! It's hard to judge because maybe the uphill sections I walked did give me enough recovery to continue to run. However I've got a feeling that (for me at least) I'd prefer to jog slowly up most hills rather than walk unless it is very steep (remember the hill shortly after checkpoint 4?).
Got a great leg massage yesterday and I feel as good as new today. Anyone wanna go again?

Think I'm similar

We said during the event that what we really need is walking training rather than running training. At an easy plod we were easily running away from most people, only to have them come flying past us when walking the uphills. We either need to run more of the gentler inclines or learn to walk faster. Or probably both: walk the steep ones and the the easier ones where we need a walk break faster, and run the rest of the gentler ones.

Managed a progressive 5k on the treadie last night. still a bit tight and achy, with niggly patella tendons on the left knee (probably due to 80 miles of bad gait with a knackered hip!) and still had tender feet. So not as good as new yet, but getting there.

Anna Finn
Yep zoyen, I wanna go again! Gotta do it in cushionedy shoes and knock an hour or so off my time. ;-)

My blisters are heeling well. They'd better be as I have a mara on Sunday... :-)

Only got two penny size blisters in my roclites Anna. Time to look at taping and your foot care regime for the longer ones?
