The fastest people definitely did use them on the 50, e.g. Giggles and V(not even going to try spelling) and the lovely Nx.
Also during a test of the ascent to High Kop using heavy poles (during September) I was loads quicker.

Were they the winners?
Amost no one used them in the 100 and the fastest ppl certainlydid not use them in the 100. I just hink you are fast enough without them, but if they work for you then it's worth a go.

FR I think that giggles and Nx use them with a high degree of success. I havent used them but am open to their potential. Not sure abotu the 100 but for me the 50 only had a couple of big climbs where they would come in useful so probably not worth the hassel (in my opinion). All depends on your hill climbing technique... That said on the ONER Nx used them to great advantage.

Also I think Nx and Giggles both wrote blogs of the event certainly Nx did.
The 50 was a tough but great event. By all accounts the first half of the 100 is toughter than the second half so you probably want to have done somewhere near this distance to give it a go.
Chidge and Qster... guys you have loads of time to get ready for this one. I would suggest that you find a progressive few races 30-50 miles long between now and then to get you on track.

Yes I got a lighterand smaller backpack than the one i intended to use. Just need to get fit enough now lol.
Quick question - everyone is different and feed stations more or less every 8 mile on the 50 route so, how much fluid should i carry between stops?? 1 or 2 litres? or 1.5L??

Depends on the weather, Bez-Head. One of the feed stations was completely out of water when I came through 2 years ago.

Aye, trial and error in training I suppose - just dont want to carry too much adding to the weight etc etc.
