CB that seems a bit strange the speeds are quite close but it depends how long each of the runs are.

If I do a 6 mile run say, then my 70% pace will be a bit over 10/mile

If I did a 6 mile run at 85% I would expect the pace to be around 8.30-8.45/mile

*blushes*

CB my 70% can be as slow as 13mm pace or about 12mm pace
my race pace is 10:30
my 85% is about 11:30

Ok, this evening was going to be an interval session, 1mile warm up, 1,ile 7:30 pace, 0.5 mile jog and repeat. Forgot to program Garmin and pressed wrong button half way round so binned interval idea and just ran.
The club route we were on had a monster hill so thought I'd take opertuinity to push my heart rate to limit and test my calculated 177 max.
Set off up the hill about 4 miles into the run and gave it all I had left, gasping, dizzy, chest pounding, nothing left at the top................ Max heart recorded ........... 177

Don't know wether to be pleased that the calculated value is accurate or beat myself up for not trying hard enough

well done durbat, you must be dead chuffed

Had a funny week re pace/HR

Tues 10 miles wiht 6 miels in the middle hard
Wed, expected HR/pace to be rubbish following tues hard session. In dec when I was running the day after a 10 miler my 70% pace for a run of around 9 miles was slower than normal at around 10.40/mile. However this week it was 10.15/mile and it was windy, most odd!!!!
Thur , tierdness must have caught up with me, just did 4 miles, similar HR to wed 9 miler but slower pace even though the distance was only half weds!!
Not sure what to do today, have a 6 mile race on sun so prob an easy one.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
