I also have impressive girth - on my calves, it must be the hills :-)

Hmm, Maybe I ought to just run without anything for once and see how fast I do it?

well done Helen :-)

Club run for me last night 8.5 miles and 69% WHR. great run and very comfortable. again concentrated on form, so relaxed and long stride. 8:47m/m :-)

They are meant to be hard to find fetch but I think ElBee has a stash.

I have had broadband probs for a few days so I have been off line. Yesterday was a 7 mile trundle at 68%. Today was 1 mile warm up and 4x1mile at 1/2 mara race pace (7.37). HR maxed at 169 which is 89% and averaged around 155 (79%) for the reps including recoveries of 1 min. Tomorrow is my first day of rest for 13. Feel like I really need it. Wouldn't nrmally go that long only this has been the change between old and new training regimes.

Girlie
Today I managed a 7 mile mince at 68% avg. last time i did this route at 70%(ish) I avg 68% and 12:37 pace
Today I manged 12:28 pace for similar effortr. suppose I can take this a small improvement, although today's run included .78 mile( the final section) at 71%(142bpm) Mainly due to commonsense rule tacking over as I was getting slower and slower( 13:00/mi+) but HR was rising.

It was less of a battle to keep below 70% for most of the run though, and I think I am learning what the pace feels like at 70%

I am wondering if I have started this too late for my marathon though, and will the improvements be enough over time to give me a race pace of 10:30-11:00/mi?

About This Thread

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
