From my perspective (which I understand may differ from that of the general public…) they generally are really good. We spend quite a lot of time discussing what might be feasible/ in the best interests of particular patients, so don’t be afraid to say ‘no, actually mil will not cope with that, whatever she might be telling you’.

Better news than expected McG. I hope this enables her to accept the care.

Dips - that sounds dreadful - thinking of you at this painful time.

Thank you. Also because she's getting more and more frustrating as her smoother bits get knocked off through age and mental decline.

And because, in a sad twist of fate, I'm trying to work through the damage she and my dad did to me as a child too late to be able to address it with her, so that knowledge, and the effect it's having on my current mh is never far from my mind when dealing w her. I need to make like Elsa and Let it Go.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
