Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

D2 that does sound upsetting.

I have found that my MiLs thinking and actions have become much less rational with age and some of the things she says and does now would have appalled her younger self.

My elderlies have become more reactionary, (more) racist and less diplomatic as they've aged in the last 5 years. It makes for interesting conversations....

Mum is bed bound and just about hanging in there. She eats very little but is still able to take in a cup of tea. She spends most of the day asleep.

Yesterday she asked my sister to finish her off. She's had enough. She wants to take some poison and go.

I can see her point. She's only going to get worse, there's not much for her to live for, and there's not much dignity in her situation.

:-(

I'm sorry. It's awful and you wouldn't do it to an animal (())

It’s so heartbreaking and you’re right we would treat animals with more dignity. Hang in there x

This must be one of the hardest things for someone to witness. I recognise that stage from my dad, XB. He didn't last long after that, but spent more and more time asleep so it was eventually more of a slipping away and less traumatic for him. I hope that happens for your mum.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
