Just curious, as I have been running in the Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS 2 shoe for overpronation. I thought it was a bit to heavy so I switched to the Asics Gel Kayano 17 a bit more than a week ago. I am now what seems to be heavy pain in my right knee cap area with these shoes.

Anyone else get this?

Hiya,

I run in Asics Kayanos and have been happy with them for a few years. I am a mild overpronator. The Asics range has a few different styles for overpronators - the 11xx series, 21xx series, Kayanos and the DS Trainers/DS Racers. They vary depending on the level of pronation support that you need (mild - moderate - severe pronator). Did you get a gait analysis done when you bought your Kayanos?

I've worn Kayanos for a few years with no problems. I don't find them particularly bread-like either.

Hi Thirdwill,

The Kayano is Asics top of the range shoe and offers good stability and cushioning. The Stabil is Saucony's top stability shoe. If you have a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is max cushioning and little support, and 10 is max stability with little cushioning then the Stabil is in the region of 8/9. The Kayano is probably more like a 6. It sounds as if the Kayano is just not stable enough for your running style.
A good way to come 2 different soles is to look at the midsole of the shoe i.e the more grey there is between the heel and the forefoot on the inner side of the sole, the more stability/support the shoe has.

I loved the Kayano 16s but I hate the Kayano 17s. The 16s had a wide toe bed and the 17s have gone too tight for me. I love the offset lacing of both models though. I've recently switched to the GT-2160s because of the narrow toe bed in the Kayanos. They are fine for me but I do miss the extra cushioning that I had in the Kayano 16.

im exactly the same as Storey, Thirdwill. although i didnt notice a massive difference between 16 and 17. the 17's are amazing for digging up the garden too. stability on the spade and durability. they did run 750 miles pre-patio. im currently running with Asics GT-2160. 170 miles so far n they feel lighter n move a little sideways on impact. poss Kayano's next time 18 or 19's :)
