Notes & Comments

Yeovil Open 1500m. My first race of the season and first 1500m since September. I wasn't expecting much because of my sciatica and achilles tendonitis problems. I felt heavy/tired warming up but otherwise not too bad. Annoyingly the race was delayed by nearly 30 minutes and with the cool air and wind I soon started to get cold and my lower back/achilles seized up. So I actually had to use the first 2 laps just to warm back up again! The main pack went off quite fast (for me at the moment) so I let them go after 100m and ran my own race with someone sticking close behind me. Going through 400m in 75 didn't feel as easy as it should and I knew by 800m (in 2.33) that I was going to keep fading. I got to the bell and the guy chasing me went around, I stuck just behind him and then surged past with 200m to go, passing another younger lad on the home straight and keeping them both 1-2 seconds behind me by the end. My hamstring wasn't too bad after, but my left achilles was really stiff and sore. I think if the race wasn't delayed, it wasn't windy and I had a pacer I could have run under 4.45 tonight based on my current fitness.
