Notes & Comments

Oxon and Bucks Midweek Open 800m. I was in heat 2, lane 3 (the second fastest of what must have been about 7 or 8 heats). We went off at a nice 'steady pace', although I wanted to go a little faster earlier on and found myself boxed in on the back straight until around 500m, but by this point, I didn't have the reserves/strength to push harder/faster and managed to hang onto the back of the younger lads who were taking on the pacing nicely. I finished 7th (out of 8) and was only just behind a pack of 3 who also ran 2.12.* and the other 3 lads ran 2.08, 2.09, and 2.10 (so hopefully by the end of the season I'll essentially be at the front of that pack). I felt quite dizzy after, not sure I was feeling 100%. I messed up eating and ate my microwave 'rice dinner' at 5 pm while driving there, which was too late and I could still feel it sloshing a little in my stomach while warming up. Also, the lack of sleep (5-6 hours) and stress from the day (nearly had to cancel the race and go home because Eunice wasn't feeling well) didn't help much. On saying all that, I'm still happy to run a SB, sub 2.13, and V35 PB on my first race!
