"Be Decisive, a wrong decision is generally less disastrous than indecision." Bernard Langer.
A good run at Basildon parkrun today. Felt I was in low 21 minute shape but the course was in parts cross country and I was putting a shift in so wasn't disappointed.
The field looked weak at the start and so it proved, I made 10th place which has a nice ring to it.
The paths were narrow on the course, but I got a good start position and for the first 400m I felt like I was in a race. After that the field spread.
The first part of the course was the cross country bit, didn't feel too bad on the short climb, it was more the flat along the top and then down a much steeper bit. Wet, muddy and slippery and was just keen to stay on my feet. This was where the time was lost.
The rest of the course was round the lake on not great quality paths but it was tarmac. It was a three lap course and it was only on the third lap that the back markers came into play. Narrow paths and people walking three abreast wasn't ideal. Went onto the grass but managed to keep on my feet and not lose too much time. Ran well round the lake to the finish and the nice surprise of a 10th place chip.
Will look to return to this parkrun, not quite sure when that might be though. Long run in the diary for tomorrow.
