Interview with James74

Neilio asks: Well done James74. Red sauce or brown?

James74 says: Most the time Red, but if in a cheeky mood, brown.
Huntsman asks: About time you won this. What type of injury prevention do you do? Stretching, yoga, foam roller, physio? Very interested as your training and progression has been so consistent.

James74 says: Once a month I have a sports massage, I trust the guy I go to and after 3 years he knows me and my body. He goes deep and uses pins! I see it like a hard sesh as my body after is in bits after, but few days after that, back in good shape, Im sure that helps. Tuesday/Thursday I train with my club, we do lots of drills, stretching, bit of yoga, but thats it. I have little niggles all the time and just keep a eye on them, cut runs short or run a bit slower, but if I feel its serious, I stop straight away.
.B. asks: Congratulations on MotM and on all your amazing PBs this year. Which Pb are you most pleased with and why? Oh and do you have a 10k PB in your sights?

James74 says: Thank you! London was always the target, but I have to admit Reading Half. I had not run a half flat out since Reading last year so had no idea of pace and target time, just ran, felt strong the whole race. Truth is, I should have been a bit more brave, but on a windy day really happy with a 70 minute HM.
westmoors asks: Congratulations. If you could meet anyone, who would it be and why?

James74 says: Valentino Rossi - I love motor sport and I think he is a all time great and always will be. So many questions some of which would relate to running, winning, drive etc
jda asks: Hi James, seems your performance really jumped from around 2014-5 (e.g. mara 2:52 -> 2:39). Can you attribute that to anything particular in your training?

James74 says: Looking at the stats does not always paint the full picture and my 2.52 London was not a good race at all. I was ill a few weeks before and even though I thought I was ok, I was nt. Yes, was a PB, but really ground it out, which made the 2.39 look really look the following year. Even the 2.39 had its issue with two toilet stops, one of which was nt quick.
Night-owl asks: Congratulations. If someone was to cook your favourite meal what would it be ie. starter main and dessert (and drink to go with it)?

James74 says: This is the hardest question ! I love trying new things all the time, but will give it a go.

Starter :Smoked Eel on scrambled egg, on toast (toasted lightly)

Main: Steak (Med/Rare), Sweet Potatoes, Rocket, Fresh Toms.

Dessert : Vanilla Ice Cream

Chateauneuf du Pape

Note, I have been veggie for a while, but currently my iron levels are to low again, hence red meat and red wine!

Good question.
Oscar the Grouch asks: Who did you sleep with to win this? :-)

James74 says: Each and everyone that voted, just you left.xx
becca7 asks: Well done on your superb achievements. To add to what Huntsman asked, what strength and conditioning work do you do to support your running?

James74 says: Well, Strength & Core is something I start each cycle and it last 1 or 2 weeks, before I dont have time, work, running and..........thats rubbish, if fact, I just cant be bothered, but I do see it as where I can make big gains in the future. I think most neglect this. Funny thing is, I bang on to my 14 year old son how important it is and he has seen big gains !
Alice the Camel asks: Congratulations on your many running achievements! I can see from your log that you train seriously and consistently. I was wondering if you are as strict with your diet?

James74 says: I do make a effort, but Im not great at this part and like the strength & Core is somewhere I see I could make gains. I struggle with upset stomach when racing, I eat too much, then too little. No, Im not great at this.
paul the builder asks: Tell us about Mrs. Dottington...

James74 says: Mrs Dottington a dog, that looks like a pig, kinda.

Tallulah my daughter wanted a dog and over two years kept asking. We are such a busy family and out most weekends and I could nt see a dog working for us as a family, so, in a real moment of Somerset madness bought a pig and told my wife, daughter, son it was a dog. I didnt get away with it, but she is great. Tallulah has her in the house watching films, listening to music and now loves her more than a dog, Im told. She does run, but only in small bursts, more a sprinter.
AntClark asks: Whats next? What do you need to do to get sub 2:25 in that England Vest at Chester #bigtargets

James74 says: When I look back, Id never have thought I could have run the times I have, so, in a mini meeting with Max, my son and my coach decided on no targets, go though the training cycle and it is what it is. Chester? Dunno, busy summer, Id be happy just to go sub 2.30 again, but, as I say, until the training is done, who knows?
Doctor K asks: Congratulations ! Who is your favourite runner and who inspired you to run?

James74 says: This is easy. Adrian Marriott. Lives in Yeovil and just after I started running spoke to him and I blame him for all of this. He is a amazing runner, a amazing coach but most of all a great guy.

Any time I stuck with something, he gets it bang on, google him, hes done some blogs etc, I trust him.
Race Jase asks: If you were to bake me a cake, what would it be?

James74 says: Cherry Cake, in the shape of three numbers. 2.19. X
