Okay can we get back on track now? The discussions in the last couple of days have been very interesting, and I wonder if Mr Huffman gets some kind of perverse pleasure from what is, effectively, trolling a thread. Does he not see the difference between when he is "contributing" and when he is not?

Rhetorical question. No need to answer.

So, prompted by Boingy's (mechanics-free) assessment, and an fmail from JulesR, I have done a quick search and found this port.ac.uk so might send them an email and see what they can do. Would be very interesting for me.

Really excellent stuff here recently which will help me get my head around all the physiological aspects, so thanks for all the on topic stuff :-)

Any links which will get us behind the psychology of continually posting off-topic....? YAWN.

Ran a half at the weekend, average HR 80%, and now back to the easy stuff for a while.

Lovely Lovely Gorgeous
I was running to the toilet a lot recently, I had to be "prepared" for an internal bowel inspection. I ran short distances pretty fast - it was like a lot of mini intervals but sitting down to relax.

Yet another question from me.

On my Garmin on the HR display there is a figure in the bottom right corner called HR Zone. What does this mean?

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
