Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hi all. I'm new to this site. I'm looking at running a sub 2.40 London marathon in 2.5 weeks time. My PBs for half are 1.14.10 and for 10k it is 34.00 - both were set recently. Do you think sub 2.40 is achievable given these PBs? Training has gone very well, I have reached 80 miles in peak week, with 7 20 mile + runs. I tend to get stronger as the distances get longer, although have been doing a lot of track work in the last 6 months which has brought my 10k right down. Appreciate advice from those who have been there / thereabouts and done it!

Ben - done quite a FEW sub 2.45 and those stats look solid.

Current PB for the marathon ?

What is your pace plan?

Hi Gobi - thanks for the response

My PB is 2.57.41 but this is 2 years ago. I'm a different animal now. In the last year I have knocked my half PB down from 1.20 to 1.14 and also joined a club & started training properly. My pacing plan is to run dead even the whole way through, if I can (think it is about 6.06 per mile pace). I have done to marathon pace training runs - the second was a warm up of 5.5 miles followed by 13.1 miles in 1.20.03 followed by 1.5 mile warm down - tough! But felt OK after it and had training fatigue going into it.

What do you think? I think it looks good and am confident but hope it is not too hot - that might be a deciding factor. I'd really like to get into the 2.30s if possible!

That looks about right to me. Just don't go too hard to early and have a backup plan just incase.

Would say the possiblity of a 2.37 - 2.39 is on

great thanks a lot...back up plan is to slow down and try to ensure a sub 2.45 championship time, so will keep a close eye on the heart rate etc. thanks for your advice!

Good threshold run this eve. 9 miles with 7 of them @ 5.44 pace. I've always understood that threshold runs should be between 10k and half m pace but I swear the quicker you get the tougher this is. My half m pb pace is 5.39 and I find it tough to run this speed for a lactate threshold workout. Anyone else have similar issues? I guess 7 miles is at the long end of the scale...
