Hope you feel better soon Solo- I guess there is never a good time to get ill. Hilarious t shirt TS. Good progress Canute- running further must feel good. Sore knee but varying to run through it. Haven't decided which parkrun to do this week 🤔 |

I hope the cold settles quickly @Solo . My knee continues to be happy with jogging on alternate days and weightlifting in between. However, another issue is that my balance has deteriorated in the past 5 months. Maybe this is largely the effect of age. In the past I have done hip swings while standing on one leg fairy regularly, but stopped this while my knee was troublesome. I need to re-instate this practice as balance is important when running on rough terrain. |

I remember Dr Michael Moseley saying that balance deteriorated with age and doing exercises balancing on one leg to slow the process. Along with slower reaction times it also explains why we fall and tumble more- certainly true for me. Glad your knee is behaving Canute. |

Yes, balance certainly deteriorates with age and is linked to deteriorating eyesight and hearing. Lots of tests for balance out there, and I sometimes try Rombergs test. A good session with the physio yesterday and he pronounced himself pleased. To up the strength work, up the aqua jogging, to include more hill walking, plus more running. Not sure when I will fit these all in! Feeling sorry for myself this morning: hamstring tender after yesterday...and I have man flu. Actually probably an allergy to dust from building site visits. Either that or one of you has forwarded it over the Internet. And hope you are feeling better ready for your race, @Solo . |

@alehouse that sounds like mostly good news. I hope the 'flu' settles quickly.

I had never thought about that side of ageing but sounds like one legged stands are a good thing to do habitually. Nice to read things are going well for you both @alehouse and @Canute with plenty to work on for continued progress. Hope the man flu is short lived @alehouse I am sleeping ridiculous amounts at the moment. Near on 12 hours last night! |

Habitually I do one-legged stands on cleaning my teeth and on drying after a shower (when not falling over)

Yes, 4 x 30 seconds one legged toothbrushing here, also. Felt so rough last night only got 4 hours 12 minutes sleep, Garmin advises; I am surprised it was that much! |

This talk of balancing makes me glad I have been doing Pilates and yoga for many years.

Since I have been going to PT and doing strength work not one fall before that I would fall when running. I have had a good week on 39 miles for the week after my 6 miler this morning. Although the run was slow but building the miles. |
