Son of a Pronator Man
i came off my bike yesterday and went to minor injuries last night. They diagnosed a fracture of the olecranon.. the elbow end of the ulna. My arm is in a sling and i was sent home. The fracture clinic will phone me today Obviusly they will give me specific advice but i'm a bit spooked to read that this injury can take up to six months to heal and usually requires surgery .Anyone got expierince they'd like to share?

I think this was one of several fractures I had when my elbow exploded I had mine screwed back together. After 6 weeks in plaster you might be horrified at how weakened your arm is, but a good physio and diligent work on your behalf should get things back to normal-ish well within six months. If you swim, my consultant felt that was the most helpful of swim/bike/run options. Cycling was the last to come back but then I'm not a proper cyclist anyway
If you have to have surgery make sure the surgeon is an upper limb specialist. I was first 'offered' surgery with someone who didn't specialise in elbows and was very negative about the ROM hd could restore. I held out for a surgeon who does nothing but elbows - as a result, I have near-perfect ROM.
If you have time to kill, I wrote a series of blogs about my elbow - have a look at April 2017 onwards!
Good luck!

Btw, I found the blogs of Titaniumgeek about olecranon fracture and rehab very useful. I can't link on my phone but if you Google titaniumgeek and olecranon you'll find it!

Very much so.. the break was not as bad as I feared and healed without surgery.
