Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Well I wasn’t expecting the email so soon for a second bite of the ballot but I’m in and paid up now for this autumn 😀

Not yet started! Unless you call a spring marathon part of my training.

btw, should we try to change the thread title as the race is no longer called Snowdonia Marathon, it's Marathon Eryri (announced on FB about a week ago).

Did my first Eryri-specific training session last night - in the garage!

Last time I had a 1.5 mile climb that I could loop around a few times, but obviously a 1.5m climb also has a 1.5 descent, so I felt I was getting too much recovery. And as the plan I was following wanted 4x1.5m with 0.5m recovery I wanted to square that circle.

So I checked out a few online tables to see what parity 4-5% incline on a treadmill equated to in terms of flat pace, and did the session on the treadmill instead. Felt quite strong, so felt like it broadly worked! A bit odd training for a marathon in the wilds of Eryri in a dusty garage, but also didn't feel too "wrong" either.

I will use the local 1.5m loop too as I need proper training on descending (which I'm rubbish at), but still got time for that!

Well done Larkim.
I moved to Spain in the spring so have been mulling for months whether to come back for this marathon or not. Finally decided that I didn't want to miss it and booked (non-refundable!) hotel and flights. 10 days later my calf went twang! Sod's law I guess! :-O
Doubt I am going to be running at all for some weeks so a marathon is definitely out - gutting but there will be other years.
I hope everyone else's training goes much better than mine and look forward to reading some race blogs to make up for not being there in person :-)

Oh no, that's appalling timing!!

I presume you can still pass the entry on to some other glutton for punishment? I did something similar about 2 years ago but only once the transfer window had closed, which was a shame (but entirely right according to their Ts & Cs).

Only 4 weeks to go, how’s everyone doing with their training?
I’m all set with time off work which is a hurdle sometimes but got 4 days off to enjoy in Snowdonia with a caravan booked.
Training not gone as planned but I can adjust as required.
Thinking of running in some oldish innov8 trail shoes that’ll come in on the rougher sections 🤣

I don't really remember any rougher sections other than about one mile downhill after pyp and a bit of the top / descent into Llanberis at the end. Trail might be a good option if the weather is hideous but I'd rather have road shoes for the 24 miles of road ;-)

I'm putting the miles in, tried some 1.5 mile climb hill reps to get me as close to being acclimatised as possible. And weight is down a little which must help on the climbs!

When do we start fretting about the weather?

About This Thread

Maintained by UltraDunc
No success in the ballot first time round but there is a second one in February and even then there will be places available.
I think it’s a marketing ploy to drum up support even though it’s a fabulous event as it’s also one that perhaps a lot think it’s just a bit too hard.
