The ghost of Christmas past

I tried to think of something that would link a past Christmas with what we did today.
That was Christmas 2014.
We spotted this in Brussels the other day.
I hadn't been sure whether the name Brussels sprouts was one of those things where something unpleasant gets named after a rival country but apparently they were first cultivated in Belgium. I'll stick to the frites, beer, chocolate and waffles please.
Actually, I play up to the sprout dislike thing a bit. I do eat them, it's just that there are a lot of vegetables I prefer so given a choice I wouldn't usually pick the sprouts and at Christmas I'd much rather have an extra roast parsnip. But if it's on my plate I'll eat it.
Anyway, today's destination was Gullegem, putting our de Lijn 3 day tickets to good use. Tram to Gent station, train to Kortrijk, bus to Gullegem. It all worked very smoothly both ways.
It was just fecking freezing and fairly muddy underfoot. Unusually for us we watched the whole men's and women's races from the same spot rather than trying to move around, so the feeling went from the toes a little towards the end!
In shock news we found something other than frites and mayo for lunch
there was a pasta van but no gluhwein today
